The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team that is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team was inaugurated on January 28, 1960, 60 years ago, and played its first season in the year 1961. The franchise joined the National Football League as an expansion team in 1960 and competed as a North Division member of the NFL. The Vikings play their home games in U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is headquartered at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, Minnesota. Metropolitan Stadium, Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, and TCF Bank Stadium are the former home fields of the Vikings.
The Minnesota Vikings are given many nicknames such as The Vikes, The Purple People Eaters, and The Purple and Gold. The team is under the ownership of Zygi Wilf, who is also the chairman of the team. The president of the Vikings is Mark Wilf, whereas the General manager is Rick Spielman. The club won one League championship; NFL Championships (pre-1970 AFL–NFL merger) in 1969, four Conference championships (NFL Western: 1969 and NFC: 1973, 1974, 1976), and twenty Division Championships (NFL Central: 1968, 1969, NFC Central: 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2000, and NFC North: 2008, 2009, 2015, 2017). The total playoffs appearances by the team are thirty.
The official uniform theme of the Vikings is purple, gold, and white. The official fight song of the team is "Skol, Vikings," and the official mascot of the Vikings is Viktor the Viking.
