Washington Wizards Information
The Washington Wizards are an American professional basketball team, founded in 1961. They are based in Washington DC and are a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) of the Eastern Conference Southeast Division as well. Home games of the team are played at the Capital One Arena, which is located in the Chinatown; neighborhood of the city.
The Wizards formerly played home games at International Amphitheatre (1961-62), Chicago Coliseum (1962-63), Baltimore Civic Center (1963-73), and US Airways Arena (1973-97). Previous names of the franchise were Chicago Packers (1961-62), Chicago Zephyrs (1962-63), Baltimore Bullets (1963-73), Capital Bullets (1973-74), and Washington Bullets (1974-97).
A new uniform was unveiled by the Wizards in July 2014, which featured the navy blue and red colors switched. Navy blue is the predominant color of the jersey now instead of red. Other than these two, silver and white are also part of the jersey. The official mascot of the team is G-Wiz, a giant character who is always looking to make the fans laugh.
The Washington Wizards have been a part of four NBA Finals. They won in the year 1978 NBA final. The Wizards have had a total of 28 playoff appearances, four conference titles winning (1971-1979), and won seven division titles (1971-2017). The year 1975 was their best season, with a record of 60-22.
Wes Unseld was the only player to become an MVP (1969) and win the Finals MVP award (1978) in franchise’ history. Four other players, including Walt Bellamy, Terry Dischinger, and Earl Monroe, have won the Rookie of the Year award.
