The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team founded in 1946 as Philadelphia Warriors. The team is based in San Francisco, California, and competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference Pacific Division of the league. Chase Center is the home arena of the Warriors. Some of the former home arenas of the franchise are Philadelphia Arena, Philadelphia Convention Hall, Cow Palace, San Francisco Civic Auditorium, and a few more.
The team was formerly known as San Francisco Warriors (1962–1971). It is under the ownership of Joe Lacob (majority) and Peter Guber. The Warriors are nicknamed as Dubs who is the shortening of "W's." The team holds several NBA records, including the best regular season, best postseason run, most wins in a season, and many more.
The Golden State Warriors are declared to be the seventh-highest valued sports franchise in the nation, whereas tenth worldwide. The team opted for California golden yellow and royal blue as their official uniform colors. “Thunder” is the official mascot of the team.
The Warriors have won 6 Basketball Association of America (BAA) championships, 11 Conference titles (3 Eastern and 8 Western), and 7 Division titles. Šarunas Marciulionis was added into the FIBA Hall of Famers. Some of the individual awards earned by the team players are Most Valuable Player (Wilt Chamberlain, Stephen Curry), NBA Finals MVP (3 players), NBA Defensive Player of the Year (Draymond Green), NBA Rookie of the Year (6 players), NBA Most Improved Player of the Year (Gilbert Arenas, Monta Ellis), and several more.
