Detroit Lions Information
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team that is based in Detroit, Michigan. The team is 89 years old and was founded on July 12, 1930. The Lions compete as a member of the North division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Ford Field in Downtown Detroit is the official home field of the club, whereas it is headquartered in Allen Park, Michigan. Some of the former home fields for the team were Universal Stadium (1930–1933), University of Detroit Stadium (1934–1940), Tiger Stadium (1938–1939, 1941–1974), and Pontiac Silverdome (1975–2001). The Lions are one of the four teams as well as the only NFC team to have not yet participated in the Super Bowl.
The Detroit Lions are owned by Martha Firestone Ford with Rod Woodworking as a president and Bob Quinn as general manager. The team has won 4 NFL championships (pre–1970 AFL–NFL merger in 1935, 1952, 1953, 1957). The Lions also won 4 Conference championships (NFL National: 1952 and NFL Western: 1953, 1954, 1957) and 4 Division championships (NFL Western: 1935 and NFC Central: 1983, 1991, 1993).
The official uniform theme of the Lions is Honolulu blue and silver.
“Gridiron Heroes” is the official fight song of the team, whereas Roary the Lion is the official mascot of the Lions. The team announced an official cheerleading squad on June 13, 2016. A few of the players added to the Pro Football Hall of Famers are Lem Barney, Jack Christiansen, Dutch Clark, Bill Dudley, and several more. Many players were also added to the Pride of the Lions (ring of honor) such as Jack Christiansen, Alex Karras, Charlie Sanders, and many others.
