Young Frankenstein is a musical by the famous filmmaker and composer Mel Brooks along with Thomas Meehan. Mel Brooks has provided the lyrics and music as well. The New Mel Brooks Musical: Young Frankenstein was the name they promoted it with. Young Frankenstein the musical is based on the 1974 movie of the same name, a parody of Frankenstein, a novel by Mary Shelley that came out in 1818, on which the 1931 horror movie is based.
The story is set in the early 1900s in Transylvania when Dr Frankenstein the mad scientist died and it is found that he has a grandson named Frederick Frankenstein. He is ashamed to be identified as a Frankenstein. The plot of the story then revolves around Frederick arriving back at Transylvania and creating a monster by following his ancestor’s footsteps. The monster and Frederick go through a series of adventures whereby at last he even saves Frederick who is thought to be dead but was actually unconscious.
Young Frankenstein the musical is a record-breaking Broadway musical show that leaves the audience in splits as the Monster created by Frederick Frankenstein acts as a rival to that of his grandfather’s.
