The football team that represents the Florida Atlantic University for American Football is The Florida Atlantic Owl. The current head coach of the team is Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin was appointed as the head coach in the year 2017. Before becoming the coach of the Owls, he was the head coach of NFL’s Oakland Raiders. The Florida Atlantic Owls began playing in the year 2001 under the guidance of head coach Howard Schnellenberger, who served as the head coach till the year 2011. The Owls play their home games at the Florida Atlantic Owl Stadium which has a capacity of 29419 seats.
From the year 2001 to 2004, the Florida Atlantic Owls remained Independent. The team was affiliated with the Sun-Belt Conference from the year 2005 to 2012. The Owls are affiliated with the Conference USA from 2013 till the present date.
The Florida Atlantic Owls have won the two Conference Championships, out of which one of them was shared. As of 2019, the football team has not won any National Championships. As a member of Conference USA, the Owls have won only one Divisional Championship. The Owls have only participated in three bowl games.
