The Inheritance Information
The Inheritance play was commissioned by the Hartford Stage in Hartford, Connecticut, produced by Young Vic Theatre in London and Directed by Stephen Daldry in March 2019. The play is staged in two parts, each running for three hours and intended to be viewed sequentially.
The Inheritance looks at the love lives between gay men in contemporary New York City after the breakout of the AIDS epidemic. The play seeks to ask the current generation what it will leave behind as inheritance to the future generation.
In 2018, the play also won the Best Play category of the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards. The play has also previously won the Best Play category in the Noel Coward Theatre awards held in London’s West End on September 21, 2019. The play is produced by Sonia Friedman, Tom Kirdahy, and Hunter Arnold.
It has also won the best director (Stephen Daldry), best actor (Kyle Soller), and best new play at the 2019 Critics’ Circle Awards. In addition to winning the Best Lighting award (for Jon Clark) in the 2019 Laurence Olivier Awards.
