The arena serves venue for basketball, ice hockey, boxing, ice shows, concerts, circuses, wrestling, and many other entertainment and sports. It serves home to the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL), and former home to the New York Liberty (WNBA). The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden is used for meetings, stage shows, and graduation ceremonies.
It was the second busiest music arena in the world in terms of ticket sales in 2016. Also, it is the oldest in the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association. The arena underwent two significant renovations with the latest one in 2019. The architect is designed by Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects and the Charles Luckman Associates.
