Found on Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, The Hollywood Palladium is a theatre located in Los Angeles, California. The theatre is spread over 11,200 sqft. It was built in a streamline modern, Art Deco style which has mezzanine and a floor level with room for up to 4,000 people and a dance floor. In 2016, the theatre marked its place in the National Register of Historic Places.
Norman Chandler funded the Hollywood Palladium construction project in 1940. Around $1.6 million spent on its construction. Gordon Kaufmann designed its dance floor. On October 31, 1940, its ballroom opened in which band vocalist Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra performed. On November 18, 1961, California Democratic Party hosted a dinner in honor of President John F. Kennedy. The Joe Loco Orchestra and singer/dancer Josephine "Josie" Powell performed on the March 1965 Latin Holiday. In 1973, Stevie Wonder and Taj Mahal performed together.
Live Nation renovated the Hollywood Palladium, and it was reopened on October 15, 2008, with a Jay-Z concert. A new dance floor was installed with upgraded restrooms, improved stage infrastructure, and expanded concessions. On the same day, DJ AM also performed his show after surviving a plane crash in South Carolina.
