The arena is owned by the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority and operated by SMG. The architect of the arena was designed by Ellerbe Associates.
Providence Red played their first-ever hockey game at the Dunkin Donuts Center during the opening ceremony of the arena. In the opening year, the place hosted the concerts of Pink Floyd and Frank Sinatra. Hockey games and political rallies are also held at this venue throughout the year. Half of the Grateful Dead was recorded live at this venue on June 26, 1974, which was entitled as Dick’s Picks Volume 12. The arena has also hosted the first and second-round games of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Hasbro hosted its first-ever HasCon at the Dunkin Donuts Center in September 2017.
