The Sound Inside Information
The Sound Inside is a play by the renowned playwright Adam Rapp, the writer of 2006 Pulitzer Prize finalist Red Light Winter. In The Sound Inside, Rapp depicts the life of Bella Baird, a Yale creative writing professor and her student Christopher Dunn; a brilliant, guarded, and challenging student.
The play begins with Bella addressing the audience in an audacious, direct and brutal open narration. As the professor to Christopher, she has taken up additional roles as a mentor and supreme confidant. Bella is struggling to keep her relationship with his student professional as things become clear to her, she wants more from him than she is willing to readily ask.
Bella is trying to fight the attraction drawing her to Christopher as the tension between them builds up quietly. Playwright Adam Rapp entices the audience into an obvious yet emotionally charged conclusion.
The play premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and received great acclaims. Including a review by The New York Times’ Jesse Green who described it as “an astonishing new play. For its entire 90 minutes, you are dying to know what will happen even while hoping to forestall the knowledge.”
