Kinky Boots is a musical telling the story of Charlie Prince, who has inherited a failing shoe factory from his father. In a bid to save the family business, Charlie finds the unlikeliest business partners in a drag queen named Lola and a cabaret performer.
A partnership that leads to the factory starting to produce a new line of high-heel boots, which improves business and turned things around for the company. During their time working together, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not that different after all.
The 2005 British musical, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, is based on actual events. Kinky Boots was conceived in 2006, the creative team assembled in 2010, and its original production premiered in Chicago at the Bank of America Theater on October 2012. The musical went on to make a debut at the Broadway on April 4, 2013, and in 2014 began tours across the U.S.
The musical has won 6 Tony Wins including Best Musical. In addition to attaining a season-high 13 nominations. The musical cast album made it to the number on premiere on the Billboard Cast Albums Chart as well as ranking 51 on the Billboard 200 chart. Kinky Boots also won the three Laurence Oliver Awards that included the Best New Musical.
