Hello Dolly, an American romance musical based on the 1890s New York City featuring a widow-cum-socialite Dolly Levi. Dolly is also an aspiring matchmaker and travels to Yonkers, New York in an attempt to find a soul mate for her most prolific client yet, Horace Vandergelder.
Dolly finds herself enchanted by her new client Horace, who is also popularly known as ‘half-a-millionaire.’ Her secret love for Horace, drives Dolly into a scheming web of romantic fiascos. Fiascos that ends up entangling Horace’s niece, the lover to the niece, and Horace’s two clerks into a trip with Dolly to New York. All in an attempt to conceal Dolly’s secret love for Horace. But in the end, love wins, with everyone ending up with the person their heart desires.
Hello Dolly was first released on December 16, 1969, in New York. The Gene Kelly-directed musical has won the hearts of the audience over the years. The musical has earned three Academy Awards for the Best Sound, Best Score of a Musical Picture, and the Best Art Direction.
