Originating from Olympia, Washington Sleater-Kinney is an American rock band formed in 1994. The group initially consisted of Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), Corin Tucker (vocals and guitar) and Janet Weiss (harmonica, vocals, and guitar). As of 2019, one of the members, Janet Weiss, has left the band. Sleater-Kinney's albums The Hot Rock and All Hands on the Bad One reached the mainstream audience in the early 2000s. Their genre of music centered on punk and rock music. Their music spoke about feminist and certain political ideals; their songs include personal as well as social notions.
They were one of the many essential rock bands out there. Tom Breihan of Stereogum (an internet publication that mainly focuses on music) called Sleater-Kinney as one of the greatest rock bands in 2015. They were one of the leading indie-rock bands of the 90s. Their band's name Sleater-Kinney was taken from Sleater-Kinney Road, an interstate five intersection, in Lacey, Washington. After the departure of Janet Weiss, Sleater-Kinney had a comeback in 2019 with 'The Centre Won't Hold.' This was the group's ninth album with the addition of a new member Angie Boylan (drummer). With the departure of Janet and the arrival of Boylan, the band performed at Hopscotch Music Festival, in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. Sleater-Kinney was among the 120 groups that played at the festival on the 5th of September 2019.
