Massive Attack Information
Massive Attack, also known as just Massive, is a trip-hop British group in Bristol, England, in the UK formed in 1988. The group consists of two band members Robert Del Naja also known as 3D and Grant Marshall a.k.a. Daddy G along with Stepanie Dosen. There was another band member Andrew “Mushroom” Vowels who left due to a difference in opinion with the other members. 3D and Daddy G, who were at the time DJs, met the rapper and graffiti artist Andrew Mushroom. Together they formed the band The Wild Bunch which was one of the first homegrown sound systems in the UK.
Musical Style
Massive Attack, formerly known as The Wild Bunch were the pioneers of the club scene in Bristol during the 80s. They mixed up a wide variety of genres of sub-elements of punk, R&B, and reggae, therefore creating their own musical style in the 1980s. It was their unique focus on slower beats and ambient electronic atmospheres which later developed into the popular trip-hop genre.
Awards:
Their first debut album “Blue Lines” was released in 1991 along with the single “Unfinished Sympathy” that reached the charts and then later got voted as the 63rd greatest song of all-time in a poll conducted by NME.
