Formed in 1964 "Lynyrd Skynyrd" is a band specializing in rock genre of music. They added new blends to the southern rock music of the 1970s and kicked off the commercial market with their songs "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free bird." The song "Sweet Home Alabama" went immensely popular among the people of the 1970s and gifted a new contrast of rock to their listeners. The song is one of the only few songs which is still listened. It could be the most told story about how Lynyrd Skynyrd got their name, but here it is. Lynyrd Skynyrd is named after Leonard Skinner, a basketball coach at their High School.
The band took a hiatus in the late 1970s and regrouped for a tour in 1987. The group has sold over 28 million records in the United States and was included in the "Rock and roll hall of fame" in 2006.
