King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is a rock band based in Melbourne, Victoria State of Australia. Founded in 2010, the band is made up of Joey Walker, Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Michael Cavanagh, Eric Moore, and Lucas Skinner.
This band has one of the most energetic stage presence of any live show, and their records output is just crazy. In their nine years of existence, they have released two EPs and 15 studio albums. For instance, Willoughby’s Beach (2011), 12 Bar Bruise (2012), and Eyes Like the Sky (2013) are fusions of surf music and garage rock and were all released on an independent record label, Flightless, founded by Moore.
In their next albums, the band did a blend of jazz, soul, heavy metal, film music, progressive rock, and psychedelic rock. These were Float Along - Fill Your Lungs (2013), Oddments, I’m in Your Mind Fuzz (2014), Quarters! Paper Dream Mâché Ballon (2015), and Nonagon Infinity (2016).
In 2017, they released five studio albums under a period of one year. They were Flying Microtonal Banana (February), Murder of the Universe (June), Sketches of Brunswick East (August), Polygondwanala (November), and Gumboot Soup (December). On April 26, 2019, the band released their 14th album, Fishing for Fishies, and on August 16, followed that up with Infest the Rats’ Nest.
