The Fillmore is a historic music venue. It is located at Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, California. The concert hall was initially known as the Majestic Hall and formerly as the Fillmore Auditorium in 1954. The Fillmore was built and opened to the general public in the year 1912. It has a seating capacity of approximately 1,315 people. The Fillmore is under the ownership of Kortz, Bregan Family.
The Fillmore has hosted many shows and acts in the mid-1960s such as The Grateful Dead (performed total 51 concerts), Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Quick Silver Messenger Service, The Steve Miller Band, Moby Grape, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Big Brother And The Holding Company, Frank Zappa’s The Mother of Invention, and Santana. Other than these, British acts were also hosted here such as the Cream, Pink Floyd, and The Who. The famous Graham also featured non-rock acts including Miles Davis, Charles Lloyd, Otis Redding, Lenny Bruce, Kirk, Rahsaan Roland, and Aretha Franklin. The venue also hosts poetry readings. The Fillmore is also known for its psychedelic concert posters by artists who, in the 1960s, included Wes Wilson and Rick Griffin.
