This venue got licensed in December 2013 to develop a US$925 million resort which later increased to US$1.2 billion.

The site includes a 23-story hotel with 308 rooms, retail space, a spa, a 3,000-seat theater with seven VIP suites, seven restaurants, meeting and event space, and a parking garage for 4,800 cars.
Some notable events held at this casino include the 66th edition of the Miss World pageant, Classic Cher concert, Piece of Me Tour by Britney Spears, and some other concerts by Mariah Carey, Cher, etc. On July 23, 2019, in a boxing match held at the theatre at MGM National Harbor, Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died due to injuries.
