The venue is owned by the City of Pasadena and operated by the Rose Bowl Operating Company. Myron Hunt designed the architecture of the stadium in 1921. It underwent renovations in 1962 with a renovation cost of around $356,000.

Junior Rose Bowl was hosted in the stadium from 1946 to 1971 and 1976 to 1977.
