Alabama Theatre is a type of movie theater located at 1817 Third Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama. The venue opened for the general public on December 26, 1927. The Birmingham Landmarks, Inc owns the theatre. Alabama Theatre is one of the largest theatres in the Birmingham Theater district. One of the remarkable features of the Alabama Theatre is it’s Wurlitzer theater organ that made into the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. The theater was added into the National Register of Historic Places and was also included in the Historic American Buildings Survey. In 1993, the Alabama Theater was listed as the State’s Historic Theater. Alabama Theater has a seating capacity of 2,500 people. Graven & Mayger designed the architecture of the venue in a Mission/Spanish Revival style.
The Alabama Theater is primarily a movie place, but it also serves as a Mickey Mouse Club every week. The venue also hosts live events and films. Amazingly about 150 events are being held annually. The Wurlitzer theater organ adds some extra charm to the theater performances. The venue provides an excellent atmosphere for the audience for music enjoyment. The recent events include The Phantom of the Opera, We Will Rock You, and The Rocky Horror Masquerade Ball.
