The James M. Nederlander Theatre is located at 24 West Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois. The theatre was opened to the public in 1926 with a seating capacity of around 2,253 people at a time. The theatre is owned by Broadway In Chicago. Rapp and Rapp designed the architecture of the theater. It went through a renovation in the years 1996-1998. The theatre is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre for years, the venue changed names in 2018.
The Nederlander Theatre has hosted hundreds of different events and shows every year since its inauguration. Some big-naming stars who have performed at the theatre are Ana Gesteyer, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Jean Harlow, Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Al Jolson, Fanny Brice, Cab Calloway, Bing Crosby, Eddie Cantor, Frank Sinatra, Sophie Tucker, The Three Stooges, The Marx Brothers, Danny Kaye, and George Burns.
Chicago Premier of the musical Ragtime was held at the reopening ceremony of the theatre in 1998. The Addams Family pre-Broadway run was hosted at this venue from November 19, 2009, to January 10, 2010, where Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane were starring. Another pre-Broadway that is hosted by the arena was Spongebob Squarepants from June 7 to July 10, 2016.
