Royce Hall is located at the main campus of the University of California, 340 Royce Drive, Los Angeles, California. It serves as one of the home venues for the Chamber Orchestra of Los Angeles. The hall was inaugurated in 1929 with a seating capacity of 1,800. Allison & Allison designed the architecture of Royce Hall. It is owned and operated by the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1994, the venue was severely damaged due to the Northridge earthquake. It underwent renovations in the year 1998 with a renovation cost of around $ 70.5 million. The renovation design was done by Barton Phelps, Anshen, and Allen architects.
Some famous artists who performed at the hall are Marian Anderson, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Budapest String Quartet. Other notable musicians are Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, and Ella Fitzgerald, who also graced the stage of the Royce Hall. Let’s Talk Music series was conducted at the venue in 1960. Soloists who performed at the hall are Jean Pierre Rampal, David Oistrakh, and Benny Goodman. The Grand Piano concert by Steinway held in the Royce Hall in 2012. Parts of the movie, The Nutty Professor were also filmed in the venue. In 2014, the lecture of Thought Leadership was delivered by former secretary of state Hilary Clinton at the Royce Hall.
