The Orpheum Theatre is located in the Central Business District of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is also recognized as the RKO Orpheum. G. Albert Lansburgh designed the architecture of the venue in a Beaux-Arts style. It was built in the year 1918 as a vaudeville. The theater has a seating arrangement of 1500 people at a time. It was opened to the public in 1921. The theater remained a movie house for some time and later got acquired by New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982. It underwent renovation in the year 1983 with a cost of $3million. It served as the orchestra's home theater till 1991.
The theatre was hardened affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and was retail to a Dallas Businessman. It was later owned by Axiom Global Properties (previously named Orpheum Properties.Inc)
The venue reopened in August 2015 with the first event that was held on 17 September 2015, was Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra(LPO) is expected to be the householder for the theatre shortly.
