The Stephens Auditorium is a performing arts center located at 1900 Center Dr, Ames, Iowa. It is situated on the southeast of Iowa State University, the central campus. The auditorium opened to the general public in 1969. Its name was kept on the name of C.Y. Stephens, the one who donated $2 million when fundraising was going on for the construction of Stephens Auditorium. It has a seating capacity of around 2,747 people. In 2004, the auditorium was named as the "Building of the Century" by the American Institute of Architects. The auditorium hosts hundreds of events annually including musical performances, world-class orchestras, concerts, dance, theatre, country and rock concerts, popular Broadway musical performances along with graduations.
The opening concert of the venue was the New York Philharmonic Orchestra during a week-long festival. Some notable events which took place at the auditorium are The Sound of Music (March 28, 2018), Black Jacket Symphony (October 31, 2017), Bob Dylan (October 24, 2017), My Fair Lady (February 23, 2012), and The Sleeping Beauty Ballet (January 29, 2012).
