The State Farm Center opened to the general public on March 2, 1963. It has a seating capacity of about 16,618 people. The State Farm Center is under the ownership and is operated by the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. It has a large dome-shaped arena. Harrison and Abramovitz designed the architecture of the State Farm Center. The venue has been the third-largest arena in Illinois.

It has served as a home to the state individual wrestling tournament and the state finals of the boys’ basketball tournament. The venue has hosted the IHSA girls’ basketball tournament as well.
